#19: A Case for Hours-Long Friend Dates on the Couch
Why I want to sideline the default coffee or dinner date for couch talk marathons, running errands together at Costco, or experiencing new things.
One of my friends came over on Monday night to watch this season’s premiere of The Bachelor. We got Thai takeout from a local spot that J and I love, ate dinner the three of us, then J retreated to do his thing far away from our hysterical squeals and these 20-somethings crying over a man they just met 6 hours prior.
It was such a nice evening that filled my friendship cup, and only further confirmed what I’ve been craving in my friendships over the last few years: more casualness.
The value of casualness in friendships
As much as I love hours-long coffee or dinner dates out, particularly to explore and experience new fun spots together, there’s a different level of intimacy and closeness that comes with doing casual activities with friends.
